There was a time when Indian economy was operating in isolation and there were not quite interaction as regards as trade with the rest of the world, but now things have changed, after the liberalization of Indian economy in 1991, India has not only become a major partner with most with most of the developed nations but has also started to demand more and more quality goods.

One of these industries is that of a leather and footwear industry. Footwear and leather industry in India has grown manifold and is not only taking care of the domestic demand but also the international demand. Currently China is superseding in production of footwear and leather goods and is world’s number 1 in production of leather goods however with the implementation of the FDDI bill in Lok Sabha, there has been an extended support from the Ministry of commerce for the footwear and leather goods industry. What is most significant is that ,there has been an inflow of investment and keeping in mind this ,the footwear design and development institute has also decided to open yet another 5 institute by the year end so that India has no lack of skilled manpower to take care of the demand from the rest of the world.
